There are many benefits to yoga, no matter what your age. In today’s hectic world we all need to take some time to learn how to relax, work on self discipline and increase our physical self, particularly our children. Between school, homework, busy parents, and any extra curricular activities they may have, life for our children can be pretty stressful. Getting your kids involved in yoga is a great way for them to be physically active so they are increasing their strength, balance and flexibility, as well as teaching them grace and how to focus.

The main obstacle when teaching your kids yoga is capturing their attention, but overcoming that obstacle is very simple and only requires a yoga for kids DVD. There are a variety of fun DVD’s to choose from that are targeted specifically for kids, no matter what their age. You can find age specific DVD’s such as Yoga Kids: For Ages 3-6, DVD’s that involve the entire family such as Yoga For Families: Connect With Your Kids, or DVD’s for your older kids such as Junior Yoga. Picking the best yoga for kids DVD is about finding the right fit that will work with your kids personality and age.

The concept behind any yoga for kids DVD is about getting them to concentrate, become more physically active and to make it fun! Yoga has so many benefits and starting yoga at an early age will help increase their self esteem as well as mental awareness. With all the hustle and bustle that life brings, through doing yoga, your children will learn how to adapt a calm mental approach to life’s problems.

Having your kids practice yoga doesn’t always mean they have to do it alone. It is also a great way for parents and families to bond together. By watching the DVD’s together, you and your family will connect on a different level while getting mentally and physically in shape. When starting a yoga regimen for the first time, some of the moves can be quite interesting, and so you and your kids can share a laugh and encourage each other to get better. You can set up a specific time each week where you all get together to watch a DVD or to practice the moves you have already learned.

Introducing your kids to yoga will open up a new world of possibilities to them. It allows them to open up their minds and use their imagination in an entirely different way. You may find that you no longer have to tell your kids its yoga time and they are the ones asking you to purchase new DVD’s and initiating the activity.

Yoga is great for everyone, no matter what your size or fitness level. A lot of people mistakenly think that it is just for those who are thin, in great shape, or are very flexible. Many people tend to shy away from yoga, overweight people in particular, because of this misconception. Yoga is a great way for anyone, even a plus size person, to improve muscle tone, lose weight and learn how to relieve stress and become more centered. The one area that plus size people often find difficult is finding appropriate yoga clothing. Today you not only find yoga classes geared toward plus size individuals, but you can also find plus size yoga pants, shirts and accessories as well.

The most important piece of clothing you need to buy for yoga is a good pair of yoga pants. When performing yoga you do a lot of poses that require you to stretch, bend and twist, so you need clothes that will move with you. You may find that it is a little harder to find plus sized yoga pants, especially if you need plus size tall yoga pants. Men do not have such a hard time because they are bigger and taller in general, but for women it can be a little more difficult. Rest assured there are yoga pants for plus size women out there; the internet gives you a wide variety to choose from. Before you go and buy a pair of pants, you want to measure your waist. Many brands vary in size so an XL in one brand may actually fit like a large in another brand.

A great brand for womens plus size yoga pants is Jessica London or Avenue. They offer a variety of womens clothing for sizes 12 to 34 at very reasonable prices. Their yoga pants provide all the important things you need like comfort, stretchy material with a stylish look. They are also great for everyday casual wear. You can easily find yoga pants for plus sized women that fit your budget and workout needs. Getting in shape is not just about being physically active; it is about changing your state of mind. Don’t miss out on the many benefits that yoga has to offer just because of a common misconception. If you are not comfortable taking a yoga class, you can always purchase a DVD like Megayoga which is compiled of specifically designed poses and encouragement for lager women.

Nothing says adorable like watching a group of toddlers practicing yoga. Watching them smile as they move around and learn body awareness, flexibility and coordination is certainly a site to be seen. Getting your child involved in toddler yoga has so many benefits to it. When they are young, everything they are exposed too leaves an imprint in their mind. They are so quick to absorb and learn new things that exposing them to yoga at an early age will help open their mind and get them physically active. With toddlers yoga they exercise, play together, and develop a relationship with the world that is surrounding them.

We are constantly hearing stories of how obesity is on the rise, and can see how stressful and fast paced life is today, that promoting healthy living and body awareness at a young age can only bring great things. You will stimulate your toddler’s physical and mental awareness. If you are unsure as to weather baby and toddler yoga is for you, you can start out by getting a toddler yoga DVD. This will help you understand what yoga for toddlers entails, how you play a role and what to expect when you join a class. The DVD is also a great tool for when you have down time at home and want to continue the bonding with your child. Teaching them yoga at home in an environment that they are comfortable in can really help them open their minds.

Toddler yoga will be fun for mom as well. You both will get to practice stretching, tumbling and rolling with your child and form a bond with laughter and exercise. You will also enjoy the company of other moms and their children and can work on your toddlers social skills so they are comfortable around other people. You may even find a few new friends to have play dates with.

To help continue the yoga learning process at home, you can find a variety of yoga books made for children. Little Yoga: A Toddlers First Book of Yoga is a great vibrantly illustrated book that shows your child simple poses that they can do at home and that is presented in such a fun way. Getting your child involved in toddler yoga will help prepare them for the world to come. It will teach them early on the importance of how to take care of their physical and mental wellness.

Antenatal yoga, or more commonly referred to as prenatal yoga, provides a lot of benefits to an expecting mother. The fundamentals incorporated in yoga help bring awareness, balance, and calmness to your body and mind. Taking an antenatal yoga class can help a pregnant woman feel confident in her abilities to give birth and embrace this part of being a woman.

Antenatal yoga classes provide women an outlet to explore their feelings, become more comfortable with their bodies and form bonds with other women that are going through the same thing. You become a part of a community that is focused on being positive and supportive to one another which helps keep you motivated and emotionally sound. Pregnancy can bring a lot of stress on a woman, especially if this is her first child. Learning how to channel your energy and find ways to relieve stress can greatly improve the pregnancy and the health of the baby.

Antenatal yoga, combined with a form of cardiovascular exercise, is an good way for a woman to stay in shape during pregnancy. Here are a few poses that are great during pregnancy.

Cat-Cow: This pose helps you to relieve back pain, which is a very common problem during pregnancy and work on your abs.

You will position yourself on your hands and knees, with your arms shoulder width apart and your knees hip width apart. Make sure to keep your arms straight, but do not lock your elbows.

Tuck your butt under and round your back as you inhale.

Relax the back into a neutral position as you exhale

Squatting: This helps open and relax the pelvis and strengthens your upper legs.

Stand facing a chair or some form of support bar you can grab onto. Open your feet a little wider than your hips with your toes pointed outward.

Lift your chest, contract the abdominal muscles and relax the shoulders. Then, as if you were going to sit down, lower your butt towards the floor. Use the bar or chair to keep your balance and most of your weight should be on your heels.

Inhale deeply and when exhaling rise to a standing position

Relaxation: This pose opens up your hip and groin area and works wonders for relieving backaches.

Take your yoga pillow and lay it beyind you, lengthwise. Lower yourself onto the pillow with your head rested at the top.

Stretch the body out.

Remember, the type of yoga poses you perform are dependent on what trimester you are in. If you are taking antenatal yoga classes, make sure to speak with the instructor first as they will be able to show you which poses you can perform.

If you are looking to switch up your yoga practice and are looking for something with a little versatility, or even if you have never been to a yoga class before and want to start out with something with a little more kick too it, then core power yoga is for you. . Core power yoga, or sometimes called power core yoga, is a one of a kind program that focuses on your core strength and balance. It provides a variety of energetic methods including yoga boot camps, hot yoga, teacher trainings and mat pilates. It is a vigorous form of yoga that is physically and mentally challenging. It brings together spirituality, sweat and strength which helps you heal, detoxify and stimulates your mind and body.

While it incorporates the many facets of traditional yoga, it has a strong emphasis on the physical aspect of yoga. All the poses are performed at a swifter pace, while some poses are held longer than the traditional five breaths. Core power yoga is also performed in a similar manner to Bikram Yoga, otherwise known as hot yoga. The room is heated which allows for better muscle relaxation which improves stress and tension relief while removing toxins from your body through perspiration.

With its increasing popularity, you can find core power yoga classes available at most studios. If you have never practiced yoga in a studio before, make sure to call ahead of time to find out what is required. If you prefer to learn at home or are just not the yoga class type of person, then you can learn with some core power yoga dvds. Keep in mind that if you choose to purchase a core power yoga dvd, to get the maximum benefits you should try and emulate the room temperature as much as possible.

So if you are bored with your current yoga methods and want to try something new, then give core power yoga a try. You may find that the fast pace and physical focus is just what you were looking for. This particular style of yoga is perfect for any athlete that is looking to improve their endurance, increase muscle tone and see an overall improvement in their body.

When you think of the many benefits that yoga has to offer grown adults, it is no surprise that yoga for kids has just as many benefits, if not more. Kids today live in a hectic world. Everything moves faster, they have all the pressures of having to keep up with other kids, doing homework, after school activities and with how hectic two working parents lives can be, its no wonder kids get stressed out sometimes. A great way to help them learn how to overcome and deal with their stress and potential anxiety is by enrolling them in yoga classes for kids.

Yoga activities for kids help teach them how to become more relaxed and focused, while working on body awareness and improving coordination, flexibility and strength which will undoubtedly carry over into their everyday lives. All that, plus they get to enjoy the class with their friends or have the ability to improve their social skills by meeting new friends. It is a wonderful way to bring a group of kids together to practice things that will benefit them for a long time to come. They can practice specific yoga for kids poses and help each other understand what the poses mean and how they benefit from them. It allows them the opportunity to talk to kids their own age about the new methods they’ve learned. Yoga for kids is also ideal for any child who is hyperactive. It is a great way to help the child learn how to channel their impulses and energy in a positive way. They learn how to focus and perform poses that require them to be balanced and be calm.

Most kids would not think about enrolling in a yoga class on their own. In fact, unless a parent or someone they knew were taking yoga, they most likely wouldn’t even know what it was. Enrolling in a yoga class for kids is a great way to open up their mind and introduce them to new things. Once a kid is introduced to the chanting of OM, they quickly see how fun yoga for kids can be. Not all kids want to play the traditional soccer, basketball or football and perhaps they are not interested in other after-school activities either. This is a perfect activity for them to participate in. It allows them to be physically active while learning essential skills that will greatly benefit their life.

If a large class doesn’t seem to fit the bills for your child, there is also the option of purchasing a yoga for kids DVD. This will allow you to introduce your child to yoga without having to travel away from home or being distracted by a large room full of other children. It will also allow you to participate in the class with your child, and all children love it when their parents do a special activity with them. This could start a family yoga tradition.

For people who run, hit the gym, or exercise at home, they may not think too hard about the clothes they choose to workout in. For them it is simply throw on something and go! However, if you are participating in something such as the art of yoga, the yoga outfit plays a crucial role. It is certainly not something you would just throw on.

Yoga is about relieving stress and bringing calmness to your mind. The intent is to remove all thoughts from your head so you can relax and meditate. To accomplish this you need to wear appropriate clothing that will allow you to perform all the challenging positions and stances that yoga requires. That is why yoga outfits are so important. Of course, you not only want a functional outfit, but you want cute yoga outfits as well. Here are a few things to keep in mind when shopping for your yoga outfit.

Shop for comfort

Comfortable clothing is so important in yoga because you need clothes that will allow you to move freely, without getting in your way. When performing yoga your body will move in a variety of different ways and so you want to make sure your clothing is not too loose to where it slides down. You also want to make sure its not too constricting so you can twist and stretch with ease. Usually spandex or form fitting cotton is the preferred choice because they allow you to move freely.

Shop For Sweat Absorbency

When performing yoga, you are going to sweat, particularly if you practice hot yoga. You will want an absorbent, breathable yoga outfit that will keep you comfortable. Especially if you practice hot yoga, choosing a hot yoga outfit or bikram yoga outfit is important because you will be sweating more than usual. You want to pick something that will not make you feel sticky.

Shop For The Right Fit

You want to choose a yoga outfit that you can easily perform a variety of poses in, but you also want to have one that you will feel good wearing. You want an outfit that will reflect your body type and personality and that you will enjoy wearing and feel confident in.

As you can see, these are not your typical gym clothes we are talking about. Finding the right yoga outfit takes some thought, not only for its functional aspect but for body type and personality. For the best results, take a look around and try on a variety of different outfits that are designed with yoga in mind.

Yogalates. It sounds like some sort of coffee drink or perhaps a fine desert, but in fact it is a combination of yoga and pilates fused together by a lady named Louise Solomon. It is often times referred to as Solomon Yogalates. The intent was to mix the disciplines of both to develop muscle tone, increase core strength and flexibility and reduce stress. Practicing yogalate is a great way to switch up your workout routine, by working on strengthening your core with pilates, and still practicing the flexibility and meditational benefits of yoga.

Pilates and yoga have a lot of similarities. They both focus on getting your mind and body in tune with one another and put emphasis on flexibility, strength, graceful movements and body awareness. However, pilates tends to lean more towards the physical aspect of toning your body where as yoga has a strong spiritual foundation to it. Both have many benefits individually, but to bring them together, for some, is the perfect union.

Most people turn to yogalates because they feel they are lacking something with yoga or pilates individually. With yoga, people may feel they are not getting the physical workout they need, while those who take pilates feel they are not getting the spiritual enlightenment they need. With yogalates you get both. Many people prefer yogalates for weight loss as opposed to other fitness routines because you not only focus on how your body looks on the outside, but you also work on how you feel about your body inside. While you still need to incorporate cardio into your workout routine, yogalates is a great way to tone your body.

A great way to learn this new method is with a yogalates dvd. You can familiarize yourself with a variety of yogalates dvds available or you can jump right in and join a class. While there are some who frown upon the joining of these two methods, yogalates is perfect for anyone who is unsure of whether they would enjoy yoga or pilates by themselves. It is a great way to test the water with each method, and you may find this combination is exactly what you’ve been looking for.

There are many benefits to practicing yoga, such as the physical benefits of increased strength, flexibility, muscle tone and better breathing. You also have the great mental benefits such as stress reduction, mental calmness and being aware of your body. For anyone who has never practiced yoga before, it can seem quite intimidating. With all the poses, breathing, and chanting involved it can certainly make someone feel a little bit out of their comfort zone. However, if you are new to yoga you should certainly not feel intimidated. In fact, the best way to start and break the ice is with a yoga for beginners class. These classes are designed for people with little to no knowledge of yoga and will ease you into the practice.

Before picking a beginner’s yoga class, you need to determine which type of yoga you would like to practice. There are a variety of methods to choose from and finding the right method that fits your current physical state and personality is important. For most people, Hatha yoga for beginners is a great place to start. Most hatha classes will focus on slow paced stretching, while practicing simple breathing exercises and meditation. It is the perfect place to learn yoga poses for beginners and relaxation techniques.

Another great class is Iyengar yoga for beginners. This method is focused on practice makes perfect. Meaning that there is a right way to do each yoga pose and with practice, each student will be able to perform the perfect pose. It focuses on alignment and to achieve the proper alignment yoga props are used such as a chair, pillow, belt, strap and various other props. The props help a beginner who has limited flexibility and helps them achieve the proper alignment with each pose.

If you are interested in a more spiritual type of yoga, then Kundalini yoga for beginners would be a great choice. While Kundalini can be physically intense, it focuses highly on meditation, breathing and chanting. This method is perfect for anyone who is really looking to be mentally and physically challenged.

Whichever yoga for beginner’s class you decide to take; the classes will be geared towards those who are new to the practice. If you do not have access to a yoga class or would prefer to start out in the comfort of your home, you can purchase a yoga for beginners DVD. This is a great way to ease into yoga and can learn on your own time.
