If you are interested in learning yoga, but are not quite sure how to go about it, the best place to start is by taking a yoga course for beginners.  There are different types of yoga, so ensure that you figure out which type of yoga best fits your fitness level and your personality. Once you have determined what type of yoga you would like to practice, now you can focus your attention on picking a beginner course yoga class.  Here are a few steps to take to help prepare you for selecting your yoga beginners course.

The first thing you want to do is find out where you would like to take your course.  If you have friends or co-workers that practice yoga ask them for recommendations.  If you do not know anyone who practices yoga, look up a few local studios in your area online to see what kind of reviews they get.  You could also look at your local library to see if they have a yoga for beginners DVD that you can check out.  If you belong to a gym, you may want to check with them first because you may find that they offer some beginner course yoga classes.

Once you have narrowed down your search to a few places, take some time to discover what to expect when you attend your first beginners course for yoga.  Yoga classes often times involve chanting and poses that most people are not used to doing, so you want to ensure that you will be comfortable with the beginner course yoga class you take and the instructor.  Call the studio and ask them questions.  Ask them about yoga etiquette and what items, if any, you will need to bring.  Most likely the only thing you may want to bring is your own yoga mat.  While most studios do provide mats for rent, you never know how often they are cleaned.  Ask the studio what the typical routine is for the beginner’s course as this will give you an idea of what to expect on your first class.

Staring any new class can be a little intimidating, but with just a little research before hand you can start your beginners yoga course and feel confident.  Since you have already prepared yourself for what to expect, you can even start to practice at home so you will be even more prepared and that will enhance the enjoyment of the class.  You may even want to see if you can recruit a friend to go with you.  You may find someone you know has been interested in yoga but was too shy to take a course alone.
